Play Dates

Now we're moving to something more like a CVL structure for the league, these are things you'll need to bear in mind.

Autonomy

There will be no shepherding and scheduling on the day and so you'll need to sort out the details of your games among yourselves. We're merely providing the venue and the booking system at this point.

Time slots

There are 40 minutes allocated for each fixture which should give you time for change over and warm up with 30 minutes to play:
3:30 - 4:10
4:10 - 4:50
4:50 - 5:30
You'll need to be on top of this and make sure that you don't overrun the time slot, depriving the next team of playing time.

Format

We still need to establish the best format for these fixtures. At the last tournament, playing to 21 led to some very long games so we suggest that you either play one game to 15 or just play until the end of the time slot. Agree it between yourselves for each fixture and report back as to what works best so that we can standardize it over time.

Money

Someone will be there to deprive you of your cash before you leave. This one will be £6.00 per player but, so long as we get consistent attendance, we may be able to lower the cost for subsequent dates.

Reporting the results

Last year we asked both teams to report on the fixture. This year we just need one team to take this responsibility so please arrange who will do this for each fixture and use the Reporting page on this site. We will update the Results page periodically.

League structure

Each team will play two fixtures with ever other team. (Look at the WhatsApp Admin contacts or check out the Results page towards the end of November to see which teams are playing in the league.) Inevitably, some teams will get their fixtures played before others and we hope to introduce new teams as we go along, so things may get a little ragged as we progress. If you don't have league fixtures to play then, rather than just hanging up your boots until the other teams catch up, you're welcome to use the Sunday play dates to arrange friendlies..

Feedback

This whole venture is somewhat experimental, so we'd value your feedback as to how we can make things better or easier. Post your thoughts on the Admin WhatsApp or just DM Jez or Dan Bosworth.

The spirit of the game

Above all, this is to be friendly. We will be logging results but the point of the league is to play some enjoyable basketball in a friendly atmosphere. We want all participants to enjoy winning but to enjoy playing more.
we will ask each team to give fair play points for each fixture and we will take action to curb or exclude teams that persistently flout the spirit of the league.
